Rev., Dr. Alex Aronis, Interim Senior Pastor

Rev., Dr.Alex is known to many of you as he served for 12 years as the Senior Pastor of Kenwood Baptist Church from 1985 until 1997. In 2006 he was named Pastor Emeritus by the congregation.

Since his retirement Alex has served as interim Senior Pastor for two large churches, he also has experience leading a multi-staff church. Alex desires to serve our congregation, nurture our growth, and provide leadership while we search for a permanent Senior Pastor.

Alex was born in Warren, Ohio and was raised in Los Angeles, CA. Upon graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Alex was led to a personal faith in Jesus Christ by a group of naval officers on the aircraft carrier, USS HANCOCK. He completed four years of obligated service as a Navy Public Affairs Officer.

Alex attended Fuller Theological Seminary, where he met his wife to be, Carol Davies. They were married in 1962. Alex served as Student Body President and was ordained in the American Baptist Churches in 1963. Alex returned to the Navy as a chaplain and served on active duty for 16 years.

Following his Navy career, he served from 1980-85 as Senior Pastor of Union Church of Manila, an English-speaking, international, interdenominational church established in 1914 that currently ministers each Sunday morning to approximately 1,300 persons from 40 nations.

Dr. Aronis served as Senior Pastor of Kenwood Baptist Church from 1985 until retiring in 1997. Alex returned to Union Church of Manila in 2000 and served for two years as the Interim Pastor. He returned to the U. S. to respond to increasing invitations to conduct retreats based on his book Developing Intimacy with God: An Eight-Week Prayer Guide Based on Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises. From 2003 to 2005, he returned to Union Church of Manila to serve as Senior Pastor, with his wife, Carol, serving as one of the Associate Pastors. Upon leaving in June of 2005, Alex was awarded the honorary title of “Pastor Emeritus of Union Church of Manila.”

From June 2007 to June 2008, he served as Interim Senior Pastor at the American Church in Paris. During his tenure there he began a new worship service and added over 200 people to the weekly attendance.

Alex and Carol have 4 children: Christine (Tina Bascom), Dawn, Steve and Rachelle and four grandchildren.

Alex has received the following academic degrees: US Naval Academy, BS; Fuller Theological Seminary, Master of Divinity; University of Southern California, MA; The American University, PhD; Fuller Theological Seminary, Doctor of Ministry.
